Presenters: Kimberly Norwood, Henry H. Oberschelp Professor of Law at Washington University in St. Louis

Description: This session will focus on how to interrupt biases that can have harmful or unintended disparate impacts in everyday life and in the workplace. Elimination of Bias, while a catchy and often used title, is not possible.  No science confirms that elimination is even possible. In fact, the science says complete elimination is not possible. So, do we throw our hands up in the air? No! We can still adopt habits and strategies to interrupt and intercept biases, particularly when they are on the path to harmful outcomes. Topics will cover interruption tools starting with self, for individuals, and then a pivot to institutional changes within the workplace environment that can proactively minimize biased outcomes.
